Description

Abstract / Description:
Database storing registered water bore data from private water bores and Queensland Government groundwater investigation and monitoring bores. Data includes bore location, water levels, construction details, strata log, and water quality.
Additional Information:
Detailed information about the data stored in the Groundwater Database including the meaning of codes and a desciption of attributes can be found in the document titled 'Groundwater Database Metadata, Data Dictionary and Standards Summary'.

Data Quality

Data quality scope:
Level: dataset
Completeness (omission):

The Groundwater Database contains information that has been collected through legislative requirements and groundwater investigations and surveys performed by the Queensland Government. It does not record information on every bore that has been drilled in the State.
Consistency (conceptual):

Data preparation standards for data being entered into the Groundwater Database have been in place since at least 1982. These standards are periodically reviewed and enhanced. Data has been manually entered into the database by many staff and imported from other data sources over time and not all data will adhere to these standards. Problems may be identified and corrected through data validation processes.
Positional accuracy (external, absolute):

Varies with age and source of data (1m to 10km).
Attribute accuracy (non quantitative):

Standards are used to enhance consistency of data. Automatic validation of codes and allowable number ranges occurs when data is entered. Spelling errors may occur through data entry. Data entered from a drilling log is also reliant on the accuracy of the data provided on the log.

History:

Lineage statement:
The data in the Groundwater Database has been collected over many years from many different sources including logs from water bore drillers and groundwater investigations and surveys performed by the Queensland Government. Water level and water quality data is collected from bores on the Queensland Government groundwater monitoring network. The quality or bore locations and other data are variable and the bores construction and other bore properties may have changed over time from that recorded.
