Description
Abstract / Description:
This topographic dataset shows the location and names (if available) of railway stations and railway sidings within the State of Queensland.
Purpose:
This Queensland wide dataset provides generalised information for topographical mapping purposes.
To provide the location and names (if available) of railway stations and railway sidings within the State of Queensland. The primary objective of this dataset is to provide a cartographic portrayal of Queensland's constructed features and should be interpreted and utilised correctly. It is suitable for use in land administration, emergency management, topographic mapping and in the production of web based mapping applications.
Additional Information:
Features within this dataset have been captured or updated from the best available imagery with an attribute within the data describing the source and reliability. Data sources include but not limited to:
- Queensland Orthophotography
- Queensland Digital Cadastral Database
- Queensland Rail
- Queensland Topographic, Cadastral and Historic Mapping
- Satellite Imagery
- Geoscience Australia 100000 and 250000 Topographic Data
Name sources include but not limited to:
- Local Government Websites
- Queensland Rail
- Queensland Topographic, Cadastral and Historic Mapping
- Geoscience Australia 100000 and 250000 Topographic Data
Feature Types:
CANE RAILWAY SIDING POINT - A stretch of railroad tracks connected to the main track by switches used for temporary storage and loading or unloading of sugar cane.
RAILWAY STATION – A facility which is regularly used for loading and unloading of people or materials onto trains
RAILWAY SIDING POINT – A stretch of railroad tracks connected to the main track by switches used for temporary storage and loading or unloading of trains.
Attributes:
FEATURE_TYPE (Feature Type) - Unique feature type that identifies the type of feature. e.g. Railway Station
NAME (Name) - The name of the feature (if available)
ALTERNATE_NAME (Alternate Name) - An alternate name of the feature if available from the Queensland Place Names Database, otherwise left blank
QLD_PNDB_ID - Queensland Place Names Database unique identifier
ATTRIBUTE_SOURCE (Attribute Source) - The source imagery, map, or data used for attributing the feature. If the feature is named, the attribution would be the source map or data where the name of the feature (if available) was obtained from. If the feature is not named, the attribution is the source imagery, map, or data which defines what the feature is e.g., monorail
ATTRIBUTE_DATE (Attribute Date) - Date of the source imagery, map, or data used for attributing the feature.
ADDITIONAL_NAMES (Additional Names) - Other names of the feature if not recorded in the Queensland Place Names Database. Maybe commonly known by other names or have different spelling. Multiple names can be shown, separated by a comma.
ADD_NAMES_SOURCE (Additional Names Source) - The source map or data that the additional names of the feature were obtained from. Multiple sources can be shown, separated by a comma. If multiple sources are shown, the written sequence will be the same as the written sequence of the names themselves.
FEATURE_SOURCE (Feature Source) - The source imagery, map, or data that the spatial location and shape of the of the feature was obtained from.
FEATURE_DATE (Feature Date) - Date of the source imagery, map, or data that the spatial location and shape of the feature was obtained from.
OPERATIONAL_STATUS (Operational Status) - The operational status of the feature. (options: Abandoned, Dismantled, Operational, Non Operational, Proposed or Under Construction)
USAGE (Usage) - A description of the major use the feature. (Options: Freight Handling, Mineral Handling, Passenger Stop, Railway Junction, Railway Siding, Railway Yard, Railway Workshop, Stabling Yard, Sugar Cane Siding, Tourist – Historic Railway Stop, Other Railway Stop Usage, Non Applicable)
PFI (PFI) - A Persistent Feature Identifier (PFI) is generated once for each feature at the point of creation. The value of the PFI will stay with the feature through all changes to the feature (both spatial and non-spatial) until the feature is retired.
UFI (UFI) - A Unique Feature Identifier (UFI) is generated once for each new feature at the point of creation (at this point the PFI and UFI will be the same). The value of the UFI will stay with the feature through all changes to the feature (both spatial and non-spatial) unless the feature is split into multiple other parts. If the feature is split, the separate parts will retain the original PFI but new UFI’s will be generated for the split parts.
UPPER_SCALE (Upper Scale) - The upper scale for which the feature should be considered suitable
TEXT_NOTE (Text Note) - For mapping purposes. Additional annotation that can be shown on a map.
ADD_INFORMATION (Additional Information) - A comment field (additional information)
This dataset is stored in an ESRI Geodatabase. Some columns names may be shortened if downloaded in the ESRI shape format.

Data Quality
Data quality scope:
Level :
dataset
Completeness (omission):
The collection of feature types will be complete.
Consistency (conceptual):
Data should be free from overshoots, undershoots, duplicate lines and agree with topographic data product description requirements with a 5% error status.
Positional accuracy (external, absolute):
The horizontal positional accuracy of the data that has been used to compile this dataset is as follows: Queensland Rail Data /- 1m, Orthophotography /- 2.5m, and Spot Satellite Imagery /- 5m.
Attribute accuracy (non quantitative):
Attribution is completed and agrees with Topographic Data Product Description requirements.
History:
Lineage statement:
A spatial and attribute upgrade of the data was performed from July 2016 to June 2018 and is continuing to be performed on an ongoing basis. The spatial upgrade used information from Queensland Rail railway line diagrams EAMS 04 Update 9, October 2019 and Aurizon line diagrams CNA Changes Review of June 2019, Australian Rail Track Corporation line diagram ARTCS3090006 of 2010. This has been combined with information from 1:100,000 Transverse Mercator topographic maps, heads-up digitising of digital aerial photography, information from the Queensland Digital Cadastral Database (DCDB) and data from privately owned railways.
This dataset is GDA2020 Compliant. The source data, and therefore the captured features, were captured as GDA94 (horizontal only). This data has been projected to GDA2020 by using ArcGIS Pro geoprocessing tool Project geoprocessing. Using geographic transformation parameters ‘GDA94 to GDA2020 NTv2 3 Conformal’.
